Charles Sumner is elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts.

Sumner( Free Soil Party) is not elected until the 26th ballot as the result of an agreement between the Free Soil and the Democrats. Sumner lives at 20 Hancock Street from 1830 to 1867. He is reelected in 1857.*
